Running West Sled Dog Club hosts two events each season. In the past, the Club has hosted two races, one in Margaret River and one in Collie.
In 2021 Running West thought to try something new and instead of hosting the first race of the WA sledding season, they decided to host a sledding campout instead, a relaxed weekend where people and dogs could have some fun runs, early in the season, allowing them to also try a few different things, including a relay for the first time.
Given the positive feedback from the campout, Running West has decided to stick with it, and again will host the Collie Campout on the WA Day long weekend, bringing back the relay as well.
In July, the Collie Classic, a sleddog race, is run which features a two heat sprint format, with heat one on Saturday evening, followed by the second heat on Sunday morning.
Running West events are always on the WA Day long weekend and in the past couple of years, the middle weekend of the July school holidays.
Both events are held in Collie, at Stockton Lake, where the colder temperatures are better suited to running dogs.
