What happens on a race weekend

Race weekends are held at bush locations, and most people camp. Set-ups range from a swag or tent to a caravan or motorhome.

Teams start at intervals of about 30 seconds and follow a marked bush track to the finish. Most events have two heats, and the fastest team over the weekend wins the class. Racing only happens when it’s below 15°C, to keep the dogs safe.

  1. Saturday afternoonArrive, set up camp and check in. Then comes the race meeting (around 3 to 5 pm).
  2. Pee Wee classThe little ones run between the race meeting and the first heat.
  3. Heat oneClasses run one after another, with about a 10-minute break between each.
  4. Sunday morningAnother race meeting, then heat two runs in reverse order.
  5. PresentationsAwards for the fastest teams over both heats. Then pack up and head home tired and happy.
